The variety is a low-vigor rootstock resistant to phylloxera. Genetically, it is a hybrid of Vitis riparia (form Tomenteux) and Vitis rupestris (form Martin).

The rootstock is recommended for cultivation on warm sandy and loamy soils not prone to excessive dryness or moisture. It has low to medium tolerance to chlorosis, and low compatibility is noted when grafting with a number of grape varieties. Its use may influence the fruit yield and the ripening time of the scion.
