The variety is an interspecific hybrid obtained by crossing Folle Blanche and Vitis riparia. The vine is vigorous and actively forms lateral shoots. Clusters are medium-sized, cylindro-conical, and loose. Berries are black, medium or small in size, with thin, firm skin and intensely colored juice.
The variety is characterized by high resistance to fungal diseases and tolerance to Phylloxera; it withstands frosts down to -27°C. Due to early bud break, it is susceptible to damage from spring frosts. On fertile soils, it requires control of excessive shoot growth.
Used for the production of wine with notes of dark berries and earthy undertones, low tannin content, and high acidity. Well-suited for aging. Most common in cold climate regions.
