Baboso tinto, more frequently found under the name Baboso negro, is a technical grape variety. It is an autochthonous variety of folk selection, originating from the Dão region in Portugal. The variety is considered difficult to cultivate and is characterized by early bud break and ripening dates.
The grapes are used exclusively in winemaking, both for producing varietal wines and in blends. Finished wines are distinguished by high acidity, good structure, and powerful tannins. The sensory profile includes fruity, floral, mineral, and spicy notes.
