The variety is traditionally cultivated in the central part of Portugal. The bunches are characterized by a medium or large conical shape and very high density. The berries are medium-sized, oval-shaped, blue in color, and have thick skin. The leaves are large, rounded, five-lobed, with dense pubescence on the lower surface.
The plant has medium or above-average vigor. The variety shows susceptibility to berry rot, especially during autumn rains, which is associated with the density of the bunch. Wines from Baga have great aging potential, pronounced tannin, sharp acidity, and deep color.
