The variety belongs to the species Vitis vinifera. The name translates as "little black," which reflects the size of the clusters and the dark, almost black color of the berries with a waxy bloom. In the spring, a cottony bloom may be present on the skin.
The variety is of mid-to-late maturity. The plant is characterized by high susceptibility to Botrytis cinerea and requires professional care. Under modern conditions, it is cultivated in limited areas of the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region.
