Piccola nera is an autochthonous wine grape variety, presumably originating from a natural cross between Gouais Blanc and Vulpea. The plant is characterized by high vigor and potentially high yields, requiring regular pruning and shoot thinning.
The variety name indicates the small size and black color of the berries. The variety is considered rare, used primarily for producing young wines with moderate alcohol content and simple red berry aromas, and is also used in blends, for example, with the Terrano variety.
