The variety is genetically identical to Grechetto Gentile. The name "Pignoletto" is associated with the shape of the bunch, which resembles a pine cone. The variety has a hermaphroditic flower type and belongs to late ripening varieties.
Bunches are medium-sized, conical-cylindrical, and compact. Berries are small, round, white or greenish-yellow in color, covered with a waxy bloom, and have a thick skin, which can result in must with tannins.
The variety is used in winemaking to create wines with fruit and mineral notes. Data on disease and frost resistance, as well as yield indicators, are characterized as contradictory in various sources.
