The variety is characterized by vigorous vines with vertical shoot growth and intensive lateral shoot formation. Leaves are medium-large, three- or five-lobed, with a corrugated, blistered surface. The tip of the young shoot is densely pubescent, and young leaves have a yellow-green hue.
Bunches are medium-sized, dense, and broadly conical in shape. Berries are medium-large, round, and red-blue or black in color with a waxy bloom. The variety is demanding of soil conditions, preferring deep soils rich in fine earth, and does not tolerate arid areas.
Rotberger is susceptible to powdery mildew due to excessive foliage density. Wines made from this variety are characterized by their full body and rich fruity aroma, reminiscent of the characteristics of the Trollinger variety.
