The Zweigelt variety (Blauer Zweigelt), often called Rotburger, is a cross between St. Laurent and Blaufränkisch. It is characterized by late budding, early ripening, good winter hardiness, and low requirements. Wines made from it have a ruby-violet color, berry and spice aromas, as well as soft tannins.

The Rotburger variety (Geisenheim 3-37) is a hybrid of Trollinger and Riesling. It is a vigorous variety with strong lateral shoots, late flowering, and ripening. Due to active growth, the bushes are susceptible to powdery mildew. The variety is used for the production of light red, rosé, and sparkling wines with a fruity aroma.
