Grape Anthracnose

Vitis L.

A fungal disease of grapes caused by Elsinoë ampelina, affecting all green parts of the plant and causing necrosis on shoots, leaves, and fruits.

In the reference 45 varieties crop Grapevine, where this is mentioned in the description.

The causal agent of anthracnose is the fungus Elsinoë ampelina (de Bary) Shear, also known in its imperfect stage as Gloeosporium ampelophagum (de Bary) Sacc. Intraspecific division of this pathogen into specific races or pathotypes has not been established to date.

The disease manifests on leaves as brown spots with a dark border, often leading to perforation of the leaf blade. Deep ulcers form on shoots, disrupting sap flow and causing tissue cracking, while characteristic round, sunken spots with a dark rim appear on the berries.

In modern grapevine breeding, there are no described specific resistance genes to anthracnose, similar to the Rpv genes for downy mildew. Although scales for assessing varietal resistance exist, breeding for immunity is hindered by the lack of clearly identified donor loci.
