Pests
Ribes nigrum L.
The pest Tetranychus urticae infests blackcurrant leaves, causing light puncture marks, a mottled appearance, and subsequent leaf drop. In cases of severe infestation, characteristic fine webbing forms on the underside of leaves and between branches.
In the reference 18 varieties crop Blackcurrant, where this is mentioned in the description.
The two-spotted spider mite colonizes the lower surface of blackcurrant leaf blades. As the pest feeds, light spots appear, which gradually merge, leading to yellowing and a bronze discoloration of the leaf. In neglected cases, leaves curl, dry out, and drop prematurely.
Unlike the blackcurrant gall mite, for which resistance genes Ce and P have been identified, no specific dominant resistance genes have been isolated in blackcurrant for spider mite control. Plant resistance to this pest is attributed to the complex adaptive traits of specific cultivars.
