Grape Powdery Mildew

Vitis vinifera L.

An obligate disease of grapevines caused by the fungus Erysiphe necator. The pathogen affects all green parts of the plant, causing the appearance of a powdery coating, organ deformation, and berry cracking.

In the reference 59 varieties crop Common grape vine, where this is mentioned in the description.

The causal agent of grape powdery mildew (oidium) is the ascomycete fungus Erysiphe necator. The infection affects leaves, shoots, inflorescences, and berries throughout the growing season. A characteristic sign is a whitish-gray powdery coating; brown or black spots may form on the shoots, as well as "flag shoots" developing from infected buds.

Leaf infection leads to curling and necrosis, while infection of inflorescences and berries causes them to drop, dry out, or crack. Affected shoots show reduced maturation capacity and frost resistance. Currently, cultivar resistance in agronomic practice is classified as relative, without differentiation by specific resistance genes.
