Triploid apple cultivars are characterized by higher and more regular yields, reducing the alternate bearing typical of diploids. Triploid fruits usually have greater weight, better flavor, and improved storage quality. Furthermore, triploid trees often demonstrate greater vigor and enhanced self-fertility, while the breeding of such cultivars is often focused on combining fruit quality with resistance to apple scab.
