Sweet chestnut productivity is expressed in the mass of harvested nuts, which, in individual assessment, amounts to 100–200 kg per tree, and in industrial cultivation, up to 1 t/ha of raw produce. Crop estimation is conducted in autumn after the natural fall of nuts from opened involucre cups.

Yield indicators are significantly influenced by the age of entry into bearing, which for varietal trees is 4–5 years, as well as by moisture availability and soil fertility. An important factor is the quality of pollination, as the chestnut utilizes both anemophilous and entomophilous methods of pollen transfer.

A biological characteristic of the crop is that fruit formation occurs primarily on the outer branches of the canopy, which necessitates special pruning to manage yield volume. Trait assessment is performed taking into account the tree's ability for stable annual bearing throughout a long life cycle.
