Colletotrichum
Anthracnose is a group of fungal diseases affecting the aerial parts of plants, manifesting as spots, sunken lesions, and fruit rot. The disease is triggered by high humidity and warm weather, and variety resistance is evaluated through field trials and genetic markers.
Mentioned in descriptions 4 771 varieties reference book.
Anthracnose refers to a group of diseases caused by fungi of the genus Colletotrichum that affect all aerial plant organs. The disease manifests as the appearance of yellow to brown spots on leaves, sunken oblong lesions on stems and petioles, as well as rot lesions on fruits, which are often covered with a pink or orange sporulation bloom.
Pathogen development is most active in temperate climate conditions at relative humidity levels of 80–90% and temperatures of 22–30 °C. Other risk factors include the presence of free water, mechanical tissue damage, high soil acidity, and potassium and phosphorus deficiency.
Evaluation of variety resistance is conducted during field trials under natural or artificial infectious backgrounds, where susceptibility is compared to a standard. Modern breeding programs supplement this process by using molecular genetic markers to identify resistance genes, while accounting for cultivar specificity to particular pathogen races.
Selection based on the description text, not official resistance ratings: such data is not available in registers. Mention indicates that the trait is discussed in the variety's sources; see the variety's profile for details on what is specifically stated.
