Variety traits

Grape Yield

Vitis L.

A key agrobiological trait determined by the mass of fruit per unit area or per vine, depending on the number of shoots, fertility, and bunch weight.

In the reference 1 168 varieties crop Grapevine, where this is mentioned in the description.

In viticulture, yield is measured in tonnes or centners per hectare, and in experimental conditions, in kilograms per vine or hectoliters of must. The index is formed based on the number of shoots, their fertility percentage, the number of bunches per shoot, and the average weight of each bunch.

Productivity levels vary depending on the cultivar type: for wine varieties, 6–20 t/ha is considered the norm, whereas table varieties can reach 20–50 t/ha. A low yield for an individual vine is considered less than 2 kg, while a high yield is over 4–5 kg.

Grapevines do not possess a mechanism for the natural shedding of excess fruit set; therefore, yield control is critical for maintaining quality. Agronomists manage vine load through pruning, green operations, and the choice of training system, taking into account the inverse relationship between the quantity of fruit and its qualitative characteristics.
