Cuttings propagation

Cuttings propagation is a vegetative method of reproduction that ensures the production of genetically identical copies of the parent plant and the preservation of all its varietal traits.

Cuttings propagation is a method of vegetative reproduction in which new plants are obtained by rooting parts of the parent organism. This method guarantees the complete preservation of economically valuable characteristics of a cultivar, such as color, fruit shape, productivity, and disease resistance, which may not be inherited through seed propagation.

The efficiency of propagation depends on the ability of a specific cultivar to regenerate. Cultivars are classified as easy-, medium-, or difficult-to-root, which determines the complexity of agrotechnical operations. A successful result depends on adhering to the timing of cutting preparation and creating optimal conditions, including humidity and temperature control.

The selection of a cultivar for cuttings propagation considers its plasticity and technical equipment requirements. Genetic uniformity of plantings ensures consistency in plant vigor and harvest timing; however, it creates risks of mass infestation by pests or diseases in the absence of varietal diversity in the field.
