Prunus cerasus L.
Propagation technology for sour cherry, based on the selection of the budding method and rootstock, taking into account specific genetic compatibility and the anatomical features of cambium fusion.
In the reference 23 varieties crop Sour cherry, where this is mentioned in the description.
The most effective method for propagating sour cherry is improved chip budding, performed during the period of active sap flow. The chip budding method is preferable to the traditional T-budding, as it ensures better quality of cambial layer fusion and a higher yield of standard planting material. The work must be carried out strictly before the cessation of active sap flow, as subsequent wood hardening prevents tight tissue contact and precludes successful regeneration.
The choice of rootstock for sour cherry is limited due to pronounced genetic incompatibility with a number of species, in particular with Nanking cherry. Traditionally, sour cherry seedlings, steppe cherry, sweet cherry, or specialized clonal rootstocks are used, which help reduce the formation of root suckers and increase resistance to diseases. To optimize the production process in nurseries, winter grafting technology is used, allowing for work to be conducted under controlled indoor conditions and offsetting the negative factors of field cultivation.
